The Embassy of Nepal in London, Nepal Ireland Society and various Nepalese organizations in Ireland, with support from South Dublin County Council, Dublin City Council and ICD Business College, jointly organized 'Nepal Ireland Day' on 8th September 2019 at Farmleigh, Phoenix Park Dublin. The event was a huge success with more than 8000 visitors.
The event comprised of Nepalese cultural programme, Nepal photo exhibition (in roll-up banners with name of Nepalese restaurants in Ireland), Nepalese Handicraft Stall, stalls of Irish NGOs who work in Nepal, Visit Nepal 2020 Europe Lottery stall and photo exhibition on flat-screen TV sets with photographs taken by Irish tourists who visited Nepal last year.
Nepal Ireland Day is the biggest Nepalese event in Ireland that commemorates the ever-growing friendship and links between Nepal and Ireland.
In his keynote speech, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Nepal London Mr. Sharad Raj Aran said the celebration of Nepal Ireland Day marks the ever-growing links between Nepal and Ireland. He requested the attendees to visit Nepal and also solicited support to make the government announced Visit Nepal 2020 campaign successful.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, a member of Ireland Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group and member of Irish Parliament Deputy Sean Crowe said he is delighted to be part of the celebration and vowed to continue working to take relations between Nepal and Ireland to a new height. Representing South Dublin County Council Mayor, Councillor Mary Seery-Kearney said she had studied about Nepal’s constitution during her days as a law student and she is feeling immensely honored to be part of a major festival of that country in Ireland.
Vice President of Nepal Ireland Society- Mr. Jivan Timalsina welcomed the guest. Chairperson of Didi Bahini group Ms. Sharada Petticrew and chairperson of Chitwan Samaj Ireland Mr. Chetraj Oli also spoke at the ceremony. Ms. Alison Irwin and Ms. Sheela Gautam jointly hosted the event.
President of Nepal Ireland Society Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya introduced the executive committee members of Nepal Ireland Society who had worked tirelessly in putting together the event. Mr. Shakya thanked everyone who has contributed immensely to making this annual event successful. He also informed that the link between the two nations has taken a significant leap on that very day with the visit of the Ceann Comhairle (Rt. Hon. Speakers of the Irish Parliament) and his delegation team to Nepal. The Ceann Comhairle, Convener of Ireland Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group Deputy Maureen O’Sullivan, Senator Catherine Noone and the delegation team landed in Nepal shortly after the opening ceremony.
The main player of the day was the weather; the event was blessed with beautiful weather. Nepalese living in different parts of Ireland attended the event in traditional dresses. The attire and the costume worn by cultural artists who performed at the event produced a scintillating atmosphere of exceptional Nepalese culture in the historic venue of Dublin.
Nepal Ireland Society has been organizing Nepal Ireland Day since 2013 with support from the Office of Public Works (OPW), Ireland.
