Local buses in the Irish capital city of Dublin have been seen with banner entitled “Explore Nepal”, for encouraging Irish tourists to visit Nepal. Such banners can be seen on 50 Dublin Buses plying on the main routes of Dublin city, for two weeks starting from Monday, 23rd July 2012. This tourism promotion initiative in the Irish capital has been jointly organised by Nepal Tourism Board, Nepalese Embassy in London and Nepal Ireland Society (NIS), Dublin.

The Nepalese Ambassador to the UK and Ireland Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise, through a message sent to the campaign launch ceremony, said that similar tourism promotion programmes have already been organised in various cities of the UK and the Embassy is putting effort to continue similar activities in the Republic of Ireland as well.

Dr. Chalise revealed that very positive responses have been received from such initiatives, and this would certainly help in increasing the number of tourists from the UK and Ireland to Nepal.

Speaking on the occasion, NIS President Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya said that hundreds of Irish visit to Nepal every year. He further said that such tourism promotion initiatives would certainly increase the number of Irish visitors to Nepal. He expressed his gratitude towards the Embassy for their effort in working with Nepalese community here to organize such programmes in Ireland. According to Mr. Shakya, Irish visitors to Nepal mainly include volunteers, trekkers and mountaineers. He added that a number of Irish INGOs are actively involved in various development activities in the remote parts of Nepal, and these organisations are also playing key roles in the promotion of tourism in Nepal. NIS General Secretary Mr. Gangaram Kandel is also upbeat by the response received from the Nepalese Community in Ireland to this tourism promotion initiative. He opined that the help received from the Nepalese Community in Ireland would encourage organising similar programmes in future, not only in Dublin, but also in other cities of Ireland.

This is the second time a major Nepal Tourism Promotion programme is being organized in Ireland. The first one entitled “Nepal Tourism Year 2011” was successfully organised in Dublin last year jointly by the Nepalese Embassy London, Nepal Tourism Board and Nepal Ireland Society. The Lord Mayor of Dublin Mr. Andrew Montague had inaugurated the programme. On that occasion, the Ambassador Dr. Chalise had also felicitated the Irish Mt Everest summiteers over the past several years.

With this tourist promotion programme, the Nepalese community in Ireland has set a beautiful example to prove that culture identity and love of their motherland will remain indelible in every Nepalese heart irrespective of whether they live in Nepal or in any other part of the world.
