2nd NIS Annual Interaction Program

Dublin, Ireland, 10th March, 2012: Nepal Ireland Society (NIS) organized its second Annual Interaction Programme between Nepalese and Irish communities in Dublin, Ireland. HE Ambassador to the UK and Ireland Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise was the chief guest of the programme. The program was attended by more than 60 participants including representatives of ten different Ireland based charity organizations and Nepalese living in Ireland.

Welcoming the participants, the General Secretary of NIS Ganga Ram Kandel described the activities being undertaken by the society for strengthening the existing relationship between Nepal and Ireland. Ambassador Dr. Chalise highlighted on the existing bilateral relationship between Nepal and Ireland, and pointed out the potential areas of further co-operation between these two countries. Dr Chalise expressed his sincere gratitude to all Irish organizations for their tremendous support to the deprived country fellows of Nepal. He also mentioned how NIS could be a possible link between the people of Nepal and the people of Ireland. He thanked NIS for organizing such an important event, and promised to extend his full support to its all endeavors to establish a platform of friendship between Nepal and Ireland.

The other speakers in the programme were Ms. Nicky Deasy (Foundation Nepal), Ms. Niamh Clandillon (Nagarhope), Mr. Paul Egan (Trinity College), Dr. Jane Fenlon (Irish Nepal Education Trust), Mr. Conor Fox (Umbrella Foundation), Mr. Jim Sheehan (SHEP), Ms. Rosaleen Thomas (Hope Foundation), Ms. Emma Lynch (Nepal Leprosy Trust) and Mr. Darren Clarke (Draiocht). They presented on the activities being carried out by their organizations in various parts of Nepal.

In the second session, a ‘Round Table’ meeting was held between Ambassador Dr. Chalise and the representatives of Irish Charity Organizations who were present at the event. Dr. Chalise assured them to extend all possible help and support to carry out their projects in Nepal.

Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya, the President of NIS, thanked all participants for their valuable contributions in Nepal and also for attending the programme. He presented society’s vision to develop a strong relationship between Nepal and Ireland at people level and extend this to the government level by regular exchange of visits between high level dignitaries and regular high level talks between the officials of two countries to explore the possible areas of co-operation for the benefit of the people of both nations. He also distributed gifts to all the Irish participants, which was sponsored by different Nepalese entrepreneurs in Ireland. The programme was conducted by Dr. Keshav Bhattarai.

A cultural programme was held in between the two sessions, which was participated by Nepalese artists Mr. Kanchen Jung Thapa, Ms. Bishnu Dawadi and Mr. Kshitiz Bhujel and Irish artist Mr. Gerard McGranaghan. Delicious Nepalese lunch was provided to all participants at the end of the interaction programme.
