"World Cyclist Arrives in Dublin"
                                                                                                                                         -Deepesh Man Shakya

Having traveled 71 countries on his bicycle, Puskar Shah is now in Dublin. Puskar, who started his journey of world tour in 1998, to spread the message of world peace, vows to complete his world tour of 150 countries in 11 years of which he has already completed 7 years. To felicitate and acknowledge Puskar's mission, Nepal Ireland Society organized a welcome program for him in Montys of Kathmandu, in Dublin on 15th May 2005.

The person who has mammoth dream and determination of cycling through the deserts, woods, mountains, himalayas and blessed with unnatural power of fighting with extreme heat and extreme cold was smiling and proudly recalled his deadly experience on how he escaped from the mouth of death while he was in Mexico. He remembers how he was robbed in New York. A man came and asked him for 10 dollars. Puskar told him that he doesn't have any money. The man took his gun out and pointed on his head and said - "a man who doesn't have 10 dollars in his pocket do not deserve to live in this world". Afraid that the man might pull the trigger of his gun; Puskar slowly pulled out 20 dollars from his waist bag and handed to the petty robber. Puskar didn't want to give up and hence tried to negotiate with the man -'Hey, you asked me for 10 dollars and I gave you 20 dollars, give me back my 10 dollars'. The man was sharp enough to reply -'it doesn't matter, when I meet you next time I won't ask you for 10 dollars'. The story brought laughter in the audience.

Cycling for thousands of kilometers is not a joke. It certainly needs immortal courage and determination. Puskar doesn't seem to lack any of these things. He didn't have only the bad memories. Some of his memories were equally interesting. Puskar blushed while he was telling some of them to the audience. When he was in Hong Kong, a local girl came to meet him and offered dinner. After having chat during the dinner, the girl, who looked to be from a rich family background, stunned Puskar when she proposed him to marry her. Puskar visibly looked proud and shy as he told this to the audience. Obviously, such type of proposals is every man's dream!! To accept or not to accept is a different story. Puskar, a married man, couldn't have accepted this proposal. He told her that he cannot do that but the girl insisted. Puskar was shrewd enough and came up with a clever question -'Ok, I will marry you but with one condition. After marriage you should buy a bicycle and come with me in the world tour.' This was an instant repellant for the girl! The girl later on gave Puskar a bunch of money saying that the money is not for his tour. It is for calling her from wherever he reaches. Such incidents have worked as a boost for his tour. No doubt, he has utter will and determination but after all he is still a human.

Hearing Puskar's description of what he had faced during the tour so far, it held everyone in the audience spellbound. Clearly, all of them were buoyed by listening to his amazing mission and were equally proud. After all he is from our country and only few in this world can dare to do the thing what he is doing now. Asked from the audience on how many countries had he been so far, Puskar named all 71 countries in the sequence of his visit, in one breath reaping thunderous clap from the audience.

In an effort to support Puskar's peace mission Nepal Ireland Society collected 470 euro and handed it to Puskar as a small gift with love and good wishes from all his country people living in Ireland.

Puskar plans to climb Mount Everest after finishing his current aim. Puskar is not only a world cyclist he is a living martyr of our country as well. He was shot at his hand during 1990 movement. He was declared martyr thinking that he gave his life for our country. He survived because he had a task to prove to the world that if you have determination and courage nothing is impossible. He begs for the world peace, which, at present seems only goal of his life.

It is time now for all of us back home to think, understand and implement what is the motive behind Puskar's 11 years ordeal. We hope his mission of peace will come true not only in our beloved country but will hold true in all over the world.
